Keen on Joining Our Team?

How You Can Help?

Urban Miners is run entirely by volunteers of all ages from the Waipā community, Rotary Cambridge and Rotary Te Awamutu. We are indebted to our fantastic team of volunteers who support us and help us with the important work that we do.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for Urban Miners, you can help in the following ways:

E-waste collection events

These involve itemising, unloading, sorting and packing e-waste from vehicles as they pass through the collection station. There are usually about 40–80 vehicles at each collection event. These events run for 2 hours (9 to 11am ) on the first Sunday (Te Awamutu) and third Sunday (Cambridge) of every month, except for public holidays. So if you enjoy working as part of a team, meeting people, and seeing all the different types of e-waste, this might be for you!

Help at our processing days

These take place most Tuesdays and Thursdays at our processing facility in Cambridge. Processing includes dismantling e-waste items, e.g. computers, heat pumps, etc, so that we recover as much recyclable material as possible. We also grade and sort household batteries, and grade and palletise other items for shipment to our partner companies for full recycling. Items which are deemed to be reusable are salvaged for resale at the local Lions Shed. Reusable cell phones, computers and laptops are also repaired and upgraded for resale at the Cambridge Lions Market. So if you enjoy working with your hands and pulling stuff apart you could find this very satisfying!

Help at our Cambridge Lions Market stall

Cambridge Lions Market is held on the second Sunday of each month from 8.30am to 1pm at Memorial Park on the corner of Victoria Road and Taylor Street in Cambridge. We sell refurbished cell phones, computers and laptops directly to the public at low prices. The stall also helps to increase community awareness about Urban Miners and the work that we do. So if you enjoy meeting and talking to people, this might be for you! Some technical knowledge about cellphones and computers would is advantage, but is not essential.

How You Can Get Involved?

The best way to get involved is to contact us and ask to sign up to our e-newsletter.

Our newsletter goes out weekly to all our volunteers by e-mail. It includes our latest news, details of upcoming events, and how you can register to help at our events.

We look forward to hearing from you!
